Advertising Strategies
When it comes to advertising, there are really two major strategies - Interest- based advertising and Intent-based advertising.
Interest - based advertising is the process of targeting potential prospects based on the things that they're currently interested in.
For example, If I were selling a diet program, I would go to Facebook™. I would find people who were interested in dieting, working out or weight loss.
If I were selling a program about how to invest for long-term wealth, I might target people who are reading books on that topic.
You can target people based on a number of factors.
You can even target websites they visit or apps they use, and even things they’re posting on social media, and a slew of other options too long to list here.
In other words, their interests give us a clue whether or not they’re likely to buy something we’re selling.
Intent - based marketing is marketing to people that are searching for a solution to a problem. When someone types “dog training” into Google™ or YouTube™, they are looking for a solution to a problem.
Intent-based marketing is getting your product in front of people actively searching for a solution. In this way, because they’re actively looking, they’re more likely to buy.
Intent-based advertising is typically advertising on search based platforms.
Whereas interest based advertising is typically advertising on social platforms. This is where people are openly talking about the things that they are interested in. These platforms know they are delivering a higher quality customer. Which is why Intent-based advertising cost more.
Interest-based costs less in comparison, because the prospects aren’t as narrowly targeted.
I’m not saying that one is better than the other. I’m simply giving you the differences between the two.
Now, the easiest way to find customers is to first find out who/what already has their attention.
Imagine for a moment that you’re selling a product to help investors make better trades in the stock market. Which do you think would be a better place to set up a kiosk and educate people about your product? Your local mall, full of random folks? Or an Investment Convention full of people actively investing?
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
The convention has already done the hard work of advertising and marketing to find your ideal customer. Now all you have to do is show up, set up a kiosk with some good signage, and your perfect prospect is coming to you.
The same is true in the online world. Marketing on social media sites and search engines are an excellent way to grow your business. The fastest way to see results is to find someone who already has the attention of your ideal prospect.
This could be social media influencers who are wanting to collaborate with you and sell your product to their audience. It could be a website that your ideal customer visits often and is willing to let you advertise. It could be another Entrepreneur who has an email list of your ideal customers and is willing to email them about your product. The possibilities are endless.
